Infinity is serving as Construction Manager At-Risk on this design-build project to construct this new fire station at 8484 Olde 8 Road to replace an old existing station in Northfield Center. The new 10,328-sf pre-engineered building will have two apparatus bays, decontamination room, turnout room, hose storage, laundry room, fitness areas, a day room, a kitchen and dining room which will also serve as a storm shelter, bunkrooms, police department offices, township offices, and a community room.
Preconstruction for this project began in March of 2021. The challenge was to fit the Owner’s desired scope in a budget of $3M or less. This proved challenging due to Covid-related increases in steel and wood construction materials, premiums necessary to make this former ODOT fill site suitable for new construction, and extensive underground utility work including new water, sewer and electrical service. The effort which included extensive value engineering and constructability review reduced the budget by more than $500,000 to enable the project to go forward. Site and utility construction will begin in March 2022 following Army Corp of Engineers wetlands approvals. To lock in steel pricing we pre-ordered the pre-engineered building and store it until the site is ready. The project completes Fall 2022.
